Former Viking heats up CFL

Former Valencia High football player Geoff Tisdale is looking solid with the Hamilton Tigercats of the Canadian Football League.

The 6-foot defensive back has racked up 35 tackles with four interceptions and one touchdown in his first year with the squad.

Prior to joining the Tigercats, Tisdale played for the Pittsburgh State Gorillas where in the 2006 season, he logged a team-leading three picks and six pass breakups as a starter.

Valencia teamates heating up in college
Former Vikings quarterback Michael Herrick is making progress with his Northern Arizona Lumberjacks team. The 6-foot-1 signal caller completed 10-of-15 for 102 yards in the team's loss to Weber State on Saturday. Herrick transferred to NAU from The University of Mississippi after the 2007 season.

Herrick's former teammate Shane Vereen is still making noise for the University of California Bears. Vereen finished with 14 carries for 99 yards and a reception in Cal's 41-20 victory over UCLA.

Vereen is second leading rusher on the team, accumulating 494 yards in seven games played. He's also accountable for two touchdowns.

Howlin' Rebel
UNLV wide receiver and former Hart football player Ryan Wolfe continues to be a significant factor for the team.

Despite the Rebels' 42-35 loss to No. 20 Brigham Young on Saturday, Wolfe had 10 receptions for 136 yards and scored a touchdown in the contest.

In 2007, Wolfe was named UNLV Offensive MVP after setting a career high with 66 receptions that went for 784 yards and two scores. He was third in the Mountain West Conference in receptions and fifth in the league in receiving yards.

Former Canyon running back J.J Di Luigi made an appearance for BYU in the game as well.

All in the family
Santa Clarita's Rich DeLong and son Rich DeLong, Jr., a graduate of Valencia High, finished in first and second place at the Willow Spring Speedway on Sunday.

In August, the junior DeLong was second in the NASCAR Vista Paint Super Stocks points standings.
