Emergency crews responded to reports a car went over an embankment on Interstate 5 at Lake Hughes Road on Sunday afternoon.

At about 3:20 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers received word that a compact car southbound on I-5 left the freeway at the “CHP turnaround” near Lake Hughes Road.

“The car went down a 50-foot embankment when it went over the side,” said Supervisor Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“There is apparently fluid leaking from the vehicle and one patient reported trapped,” he said.

Emergency response crews with the U.S. Forest Service were on the scene, a CHP spokesman said, adding CHP officers had been dispatched as well.

Lake Hughes Road has been in the news these past couple of weeks after two cars in separate incidents went over a cliff on that road and plunged about 200 feet into a ravine.

One of the motorists was found alive six days after his car crashed into the ravine, the other motorist died in a similar crash 10 days earlier.
