Letter: McKeon shows GOP loyalty in Cemex case

When he is again up for election, let’s remember that Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon put party politics ahead of the best interests of the people he is supposed to represent here in Santa Clarita.

Do we want a sand and gravel mine near Highway 14 and Santa Clarita? Of course not. The congressman could help keep that from happening if he would sponsor a companion bill to that of Barbara Boxer’s call for an exchange of land with the federal government.

Without going into a lot of details, the simple fact is this: If “Buck” would sponsor the bill, the Cemex mine might be relocated to a location away from Santa Clarita.

He has sponsored such a bill on several occasions in the past, but he won’t sponsor one now because, in his own words, “of the Republican ban on special spending provisions.”

This is just another example of “party over people,” a condition that has existed for far too long.

Okay, congressman, you go right ahead and put Republican goals ahead of the interests of the people of Santa Clarita, and you can expect a new title after the next election — “Former Representative McKeon.”
