Sheriff's deputies were searching for a Canyon Country man who allegedly tried to hit his wife with a hammer and then used the tool to wreck part of his house on Monday.

Following the attack Monday afternoon in the 19000 block of Vicci Street, the man fled his home in a 2000 Ford full-sized truck with single cab, a sheriff's report said.

Investigators identified the man as Marcos Blanco. He was wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt with sleeves cut off.

Anyone with information about Blanco's whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff's Station at (661) 255-1121.

Two Arrested in Newhall Shooting
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station announced Monday that two men were arrested in connection with gunfire Friday night near Second Street and Arch Street in Newhall.

Andrew Mendoza, 22, and Alfredo Vargas, 43, both of Newhall, were detained by deputies on Arch Street between Second and Third streets. Deputies reportedly found a loaded handgun on one of the suspects. Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects apparently fired three shots near the location.

Both men were arrested and booked on felony charges. Mendoza was charged with carrying an unregistered firearm, a felony, and carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, a misdemeanor. He was being held on $35,000 bail.

Vargas was booked on a felony charge of negligent discharge of a firearm; he posted bail and was released pending a future court proceeding.
