A local sheriff's deputy ran after a suspect along Soledad Canyon Road and through a car wash this morning but eventually got his man, who turned out to be a 12-year-old boy.

Deputies lost sight of the suspect when he ducked into the car wash, "but we did the detail on him," Lt. Joe Efflandt quipped.

The foot chase began near Soledad and Vilna Avenue about 7 a.m. and ended up near Sierra Highway about a half-mile away.

The suspect was wanted for unknown contraband, which deputies believed was likely drugs or a firearm.

"The bottom line is that he ran from sheriff's deputies," which prompted the chase, Efflandt said.

When Deputy Alan Hodge caught up with the boy, no contraband was found.

The boy was cited for truancy and returned to his school.
