A group of Albert Einstein Academy students and their families gathered Sept. 17 to help clean up and preserve the Santa Clara River.

The Einstein Academy regularly gives back to the community through service projects.

“Keeping our community clean and setting an example of ongoing efforts to do so is important to our school,” said Kristen Lindquist, Community Service Council representative. “Excessive trash in the area needs to be eliminated to help the wildlife.”

The cleanup was part of the city’s River Rally and Environmental Expo, which brought together dozens of community volunteers to learn about the environment and preserve the river.

The Santa Clara River is the longest free-flowing and one of the last two natural river systems remaining in Southern California.
