The Valencia High School Vikings Cheer Squad helped kick off the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 10th annual Light the Night Walk in Bridgeport Park.
The event, held Sunday, attracted hundreds of supporters to raise money to benefit blood cancer research and education.
The Cheer Squad performed cheers for the walkers at the start and finish lines of the two mile walk, in addition to motivating the walkers. The squad also broke up into groups to encourage the walkers at different points along the walk.
Two girls from the Varsity Squad, Shelby Grajeda and Sarah Wilbert, announced to the crowd their support of David Stroud, a senior at Valencia High who was diagnosed in April with Lymphoma. Stroud is a friend to many of the girls on the Cheer Squad. They said he is always in their prayers.
