Company looking into more locations

The FlyAway bus could one day stop in Santa Clarita, giving local residents a quick way to access Los Angeles International Airport.

"LAX is looking to expand the FlyAway service as part of their master plan," said Darren Hernandez, Santa Clarita's deputy city manager.

As a result, Los Angeles World Airports, LAX's parent company, is exploring a number of different areas, with one plan analyzing Santa Clarita and the McBean Transfer Station in Valencia, he said.

The FlyAway service operates frequently throughout the day at its locations in Westwood, Union Station and Van Nuys.

No concrete plans are in place for a FlyAway and the city has not heard from Los Angeles World Airports since an initial meeting in the early part of 2008, Hernandez said.

Tom Winfrey, a public relations representative for Los Angeles World Airports, did not say that Santa Clarita is considered as a possible site for a FlyAway.

Rather, the company is reviewing all possible locations.

"We're always looking at sites," he said.

For the time being, the financial crisis might have slowed down the company's plans for expansion, Hernandez said.

"They may wait until the economy has recovered," he said.

The initial announcement of a FlyAway service in Santa Clarita came during the State of the City luncheon in September.
