Senior Lunch Menu
Available Monday through Friday at the SCV Senior Center in Newhall. Meals are also available when you call one day ahead at Bouquet Canyon Seniors, Monday through Friday, (661) 513-9479, and available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Masonic Lodge in Friendly Valley (661) 299-4595.

Sept. 14: Henry Mayo
Newhall Memorial Hospital Registered Dietitian Lisa Bryant will discuss “Nutrition and Diabetes: Foods You Don’t Want to Forget to Eat.”
Sept. 14: Audiologist Randall Bartlett of Audiology Services of Newhall will provide hearing tests for people who do not currently wear hearing aids, 11 a.m.-noon, Supportive Services modular. All hearing-related questions welcome.
Sept. 21: No lecture
Sept. 23: Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital presents a Fall Prevention Fair in honor of National Fall Prevention Day, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Santa Clarita Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. (661) 253-8000.
Sept. 28: Facey Medical Group will provide free carotid artery testing, 1-4 p.m. This non-invasive test is a diagnostic tool for identifying carotid artery plaques and potential blockages. Pre-signups strongly recommended; clinic open to 15 patients. Sign up sheet is on the Health & Wellness bulletin board in the senior center.

AARP Drive Safely program
Qualifies participants 55 and over for three year automobile insurance credit, $12 AARP members, $14 non-members, 1-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. Senior center. To register, please contact (661) 259-9444.

Free spine education program
Learn how to take better care of your spine, including lifestyle changes that may help with pain management and prevent future injuries, classes meet the second Wednesday of each month, 5-6 p.m., Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Outpatient Therapy Services Ambulatory Care Center, 25751 McBean Parkway, Suite 310, Valencia. Free flu shots

Functional fitness
At 8:30 a.m. M-W-F, we’re movin’ and groovin’, steppin’ and sweatin’ to the beat with ACE Certified Exercise Specialist Linda Bennett.
We’re the new and improved “middle age” 50-plus active adults. The program encompasses functional fitness — moves are designed to simulate ADLs (activities of daily living), and sports moves like golf, tennis, and skiing. We do cardiovascular training, muscle and bone building, core stabilization, and spatial awareness for balance — all within one hour. If you’re not quite ready for the fast and furious fitness, at 9:45 a.m. there is a great 30-minute chair class that will suit you. Food for the soul
Put smiles on the faces and warm the hearts of homebound seniors when you become a home-delivered meal driver. Become a part of our volunteer team to ensure that no senior goes without a meal. Help is desperately needed for as little as two and one-half hours one day a week or even one day a month (Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.). Vehicles provided.
