The Hart district named Kate Povletich of Golden Valley High School as the 23,000-student district’s 2011-12 Teacher of the Year during a Wednesday night recognition ceremony.

Povletich, who teaches in the social studies department, was selected by her peers for her commitment to Golden Valley and her leadership within the faculty as a department chair.

“Kate has influenced the culture in her school and caused fellow faculty members to place a value on equity, effectiveness and mutual accountability for the success of all students,” said Rob Gapper, assistant superintendent of human resources.

“She has been instrumental in her school shifting from isolation to collaboration, and she has become a champion of professional learning communities.”

In addition, William S. Hart Union High School District board members and administrators recognized one teacher from every local junior high and high school, who gathered before the meeting to celebrate achievements in local teaching.
