Everyone remembers where they were on Sept. 11, 2001. I was working out in Central Park in a Fitness Edge Boot Camp class led by the amazing Cheryl Broughton.

After class ended at 7 a.m., I climbed in my car and realized something had happened, but I didn’t know what.

It didn’t take long for the enormity of that morning to sink in.

I hope everyone has a chance to attend one of the Sept. 11 commemoration events today and observes a moment of silence at 10 a.m.

Dinner honors leaders

The sixth annual Boys Scouts of America Leaders of Character Recognition Dinner will be held Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. This year’s honorees are Kerry and Kristie Carmody, Don and Cheri Fleming and Laurene Weste and Jim McCarthy. Kudos to Arif Haliby and Total Financial Solutions, Inc. for being the presenting sponsor of the annual event. The event benefits the Bill Hart District of the Boy Scouts of America. Tickets are still on sale. For reservations contact Jeff Prata (661) 212-1095 or email jprata@bsa-la.org.

Evening Under the Stars

It’s the beginning of the high social season in the Santa Clarita Valley. One of the SCV’s signature events is the annual

Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer Evening Under the Stars. In addition to the gala dinner and charity auction, guests will be treated to a headline performance by Motown great, Louis Price, formerly of “The Temptations.”

The annual event is the major fundraiser for the Foundation, whose mission is to provide practical, emotional and direct financial support to children and their families in the SCV facing pediatric cancer.

Child & Family Center celebrates 35 years

Kudos to the visionaries that founded the Santa Clarita Child & Family Center 35 years ago. The Center celebrated its 35 years with a swanky party held at the center on Friday.

The fantastic band, Sierra Highway, provided the entertainment and food and drink was served. Speeches were kept to a minimum and numerous supporters came out to fete the Center and its mission to provide mental health services to children and families in the SCV.
