Annual Valley Fair Returning to SCV in June

Event planned for June 26-29.

The Valley Fair, which had traditionally been held in the San Fernando Valley, will be held for a second year in Santa Clarita, from June 26 to 29 at Saugus Speedway.

This year's livestock competitions and auctions will be held on site at the Saugus Speedway. In 2007, 4-H and Future Farmers of America members staged a demonstration outside the fair to protest the decision to hold the livestock portion of the fair in Lake View Terrace. Exhibitors said holding the livestock activities offsite means fewer people participate in the auctions.

The fair will be an "upgrade" from last year's and will feature "big-named bands" and new attractions, including a Thrill Section and Kids Zone with electric go-carts and raceway, according to fair CEO Catherine Garcia. Fair organizers are still booking performers, but have already secured a number of 70s and 80s tribute bands to play on the main stage each night.

"We're going big time this year," said Barry Greenberg, spokesman for the fair.

Family attractions will include The Nerveless Nock Thrill Show, Amazing Rain Forest Experience and Bengal Tiger show and animal trainer Kevin Keith's "Wild About Monkeys" show.

Entry forms to exhibit at home arts, crafts, fine arts, photography technology, farming, gardening and flower departments are also available on the fair's Web site along with livestock entry forms, schedules, rules and divisions. Performer applications are also available on the fair's Web site.

The fair will run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 26, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on June 27 and noon to 11 p.m. over the weekend. Admission is adults $7, seniors and children 6 to 11 are $4. Children 5 years and under are free.
