Crime investigators are testing material believed to be explosives today after the substances were found in a Canyon Country home.

Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's deputies assigned to the Crime Impact Squad, with the help of the SWAT team, executed a search warrant Monday at a home on Furnivall Avenue.

Inside they found small amounts of methamphetamine, some scales, hypodermic needles and a 4-year-old girl, said Sgt. John Bomben.

"The child was placed in protective custody and the mother charged," Bomben said.

Deputies obtained legal permission to search the home after spotting a suspected explosive device in a car during a traffic stop Wednesday.

Arson/explosives investigators are expected to test the material in a newly built laboratory outside Santa Clarita Valley.

Stacie Rae Wolf, 35, is charged with cruelty to a child that is likely to produce injury or death.
