California Highway Patrol officers have identified the motorcyclist killed Monday morning on Interstate 405.

The victim has been identified as Danny Stafford, 43, of Reseda.

At about 8:10 a.m., Stafford was traveling northbound Interstate 405 at a high rate of speed and was moving into the carpool lane just south of San Fernando Mission Boulevard when he lost control of his motorcycle and it struck the center divider, said CHP Officer John Lutz.

The rider suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision, Lutz said.

Responding CHP officers found the rider's body in the fast lane and his Yamaha motorcycle on the shoulder near the No. 4 lane.

Yellow tarps were placed across the carpool lane and the No. 2 lane next to it as officers diverted traffic around the crash site, one witness said.

The coroner with the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner was called to the scene within 10 minutes of the accident first being reported.
