Staff at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital recently celebrated the hospital’s birthday.

In honor of its 36th birthday, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital treated physicians, staff and volunteers to gourmet desserts, refreshments and gifts.

In response to the needs of a growing community, the hospital has added a number of new services and facilities in the past year, including a new and larger intensive-care unit, expanded operating room, parking garage and helipad.

Of particular benefit to local families, the construction of a new neonatal intensive care unit is expected to be completed, and the unit opened, in December 2011.

“During the last 36 years, we have seen tremendous growth and changes for our hospital and our community,” said Roger Seaver, president and CEO at Henry Mayo.

The 227 bed not-for-profit community hospital employs more than 1,200 people and is the only hospital to serve the local community, including trauma care.

Henry Mayo is ranked as one of the largest employers in the city and region.

Henry Mayo Hospital recently put together several electronic health-record-system components, and was designated as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

The event was conceived to honor people who helped the hospital accomplish so much and continue to support community as it grew, Seaver said.

“As the Santa Clarita Valley has grown, Henry Mayo’s staff, volunteers and physicians have dedicated themselves to providing comfort and quality care to our community and enhancing our services to meet their needs,” Seaver said.
