Fall is almost here, meaning two things: Kids are off to school, and jeans season is back.

Are your skinny jeans taunting you from the back of your closet? Don’t throw them out yet. Instead, get ready to lose two jean sizes in the next eight weeks.

Cyndi Madia, a mother of two, wife and full-time career woman joined the Results Fitness “Rock Your Jeans Challenge” to lose two jean sizes in eight weeks.

She not only lost the two jean sizes, and was able to treat herself to a brand new pair, she is also still wearing them a year later.

In Cyndi’s words, “I don’t have much free time, so finding the time to workout is a challenge. I have made the commitment to get up extra early to do what I now consider my morning therapy. I’ve gone down three jean sizes at this point, my abs are tighter than ever and my body is looking better than I thought it could at 40.”

What’s so different about doing a jeans challenge rather than another weight-loss program? It is completely different. This approach leads to long-term results, rather than a quick fix.

Too many women have spent a lifetime being a slave to the scale, giving that metal, inanimate object way too much power over what kind of day they will have.

We have found using strength training as a priority for your workouts will get you down two jean sizes faster than anything.

The catch is, the scale becomes a very unreliable indicator of your progress. When you gain lean body mass, boosting your metabolism and helping you to burn off fat, completely reinventing your body, the scale might not show this, but your jeans will.

The fantastic thing about using jeans is that they can be any size. You might start as a size 12 and want to be a size 8, or you might be a size 18 and want to wear size 14. It doesn’t matter. These are your skinny jeans that you want to rock.

First step: Go right now and pull out those jeans that you have been keeping hoping to wear “someday.”

Guess what. Someday is today! Go ahead. Grab your jeans out of your closet now.

Seriously, I’ll wait. Taking action is the key to getting started.

After you try the jeans on, hang them somewhere you’ll see them every day, or swap jeans with a friend who will keep you accountable.

Seven strategies Cyndi used to get into her skinny jeans and stay there:

1. Cyndi made her first priority strength training when it came to her workouts. Strength training will increase your metabolism, burn calories and create an after-burn effect in which you will burn more calories the 24-48 hours following the exercise bout.

Her second priority was metabolic interval circuit training. This is intense for short periods of time, and will burn calories and also create a revving metabolism.

Bottom line: if you are short on time, metabolic resistance training and an interval metabolic circuit three to five times a week are the keys to getting into your jeans.

2. She fueled her body, rather than starving it. Eating within 15 minutes of waking up and then every two to three hours to fuel your body with a fruit or vegetable and protein at every meal. This will get your metabolism revving, and burning that muffin top right off, so your jeans fit perfectly.

3. Cyndi refueled post-workout. Immediately following a workout session, you need to refuel your body. Mix up a shake with whey protein and fresh fruit and gulp it down immediately after you sweat.

4. Although she is busy, Cyndi also made sure to get enough sleep and manage stress. If you are not getting enough down time to let your body restore itself, you will not burn fat.

5. Drinking lots of water — at least half your body weight in ounces of water every day.

6. Keeping a journal. Keeping track of what you are doing will keep you accountable.

7. She gave herself room to splurge and not feel guilty about it. Eat healthfully 90 percent of the time; plan on splurging the other 10 percent.

Give yourself room to indulge so, when you have one slip up, you don’t feel like you’ve blown it.

I have seen consistently if you eat healthfully 90 percent of your week, your body can handle to enjoy a splurge 10 percent of your week without affecting your results.

Follow these seven tips, and your jeans should start to fit in no time.

Try them on every three to four weeks to make sure you are on track. Do not look at the scale, which will deceive you, and you will think you haven’t changed when, in fact, you have. Only use your jeans as your measurement of progress.
