About 275 guests attended Mission Valley Bank’s 10-year anniversary celebration Wednesday at a branch in Valencia.

Mission Valley Bank celebrated its 10th anniversary by giving back to the community Wednesday evening at its Valencia branch.

Some 275 guests were on hand to mark the event as Tamara Gurney, president and CEO, handed out $10,000 to local nonprofit organizations.

“There are so many worthwhile charities here,” Gurney said. “We tried to select a diverse group from health care to education and economic development to benefit the community.”

Receiving $1,000 each were: the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley; Carousel Ranch; College of the Canyons Foundation; Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Health Foundation; Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers; Single Mothers Outreach; SCV Economic Development Corp.; SCV Food Pantry; SCV Pregnancy Center; and the SCV Senior Center.

Mission Valley Bank also gave away $10,000 last month to local charities at a celebration in San Fernando Valley, where the bank is headquartered. The bank has two branches in Santa Clarita.

The concept of “giving back” was a collaboration of ideas when deciding how the bank should celebrate its 10-year anniversary, Gurney said. Eventually, the group of employees came up with the concept of 10-for-10; 10 years and $10,000 each granted in two celebrations.

“I think it’s wonderful to be a partner in the community and be part of it,” said Earle Wasserman, director and chairman of the board.

Instead of giving one big gift, we decided to share with the community by giving many gifts to help in these tough economic times, he said.
