A 50-year-old man is in custody today after allegedly pulling a gun on "a bunch of kids on bicycles" who almost ran into him, a sheriff's official said.

At about 2 p.m., a man on the sidewalk in the area of Soledad Canyon Road and Crossglade Avenue was approached by a group of kids on bicycles who almost struck him, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

"The 50-year-old pushed one of the boys, who said ‘Why are you doing this?' at which point the man pulls a gun the kid," he said, adding the suspected gunman then followed the boys to a bank in Canyon Country.

The boys, meanwhile, called the Sheriff's Station to report the suspect's location and said he allegedly dropped the handgun into a trash can by the bank.

Deputies responded to the call and found a man matching the boy's description inside the bank. They recovered a handgun inside a trash can near the bank, Briski said.

The investigation is continuing.
