Next weekend, Aug. 20 and 21, the Wings over Camarillo Air Show takes over Camarillo Airport, bringing you a multitude of thrills in the sky and good times on the ground. And this year something really special has been added. For the first time in America, the 2011 Wings over Camarillo Air Show presents the Ultimate Air Racing Championship demonstration.
Seven pilots from around the world race wingtip to wingtip around a closed pylon obstacle course.
Of course the air show has a lot more in store for you beyond the race demonstration. There will be fly-bys and aerobatic demonstrations by a wide variety of aircraft, including the Goodyear Blimp, vintage planes and WWII fighters, bombers and transports. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department will be doing a water drop on one day and a simulated rescue hoist lift on the second day. The grand finale each day will be a spectacular display of some 30 planes in formation flight over the crowd.
An especially nice feature of the Camarillo show is the accessibility of the planes, pilots and crews to the public. Walk among the planes, take photos and ask questions of the pilots and air show volunteers.
Additionally, there will be airplane and helicopter rides available, a pancake breakfast, an antique tractor display, a host of food vendors, gifts and souvenirs on sale, a silent auction and raffle and lots of activities for young children at the Kids Corner.
