Michael Hoefflin was only 11 in 1996 when he died from brain cancer.

However, the foundation that bears his name continues to raise funds to provide financial and emotional support to children and their families in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer also donates money to pediatric cancer research and cancer education.

The 18th annual Evening Under the Stars will be held 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia.

Gala Committee Chairwoman Julie Benson, of Princess Cruises, said this year’s event should be “a magical evening for all attendees.”

Dave Chase of DGC Events is in charge of production for this year’s gala.

Also on the executive committee are Ed Lin, Interim Executive Director of the Michael Hoefflin Foundation; Robert Barnes of Time Warner Cable, Scott Schauer of Santa Clarita Soccer Center, Jenny Ketchepaw of Community Bank and Tim Ketchepaw of ServPro.

The gala committee vice chairs include: Lisa Lorenz of Show Group Production Services, Brenda Neilson of Bank of Santa Clarita, Jon Hutson of BrandCulture Company; Gail Berke of Danielle Whitener, Debbie Hollbrook of Princess Cruises and Gillian Stone.

KCAL TV news anchor Rick Garcia will serve as emcee.

Musical guest will be Louis Price, former lead singer of The Temptations.

In addition to entertainment, the elegant evening will feature dinner catered by Salt Creek Grille and the return of the popular “martini lounge” from year’s gala.
