There were some tense moments for a van-load of camp kids Wednesday when their vehicle ended up blocking two southbound lanes of Interstate 5 at afternoon rush hour.

About 4:15 p.m., a white van transporting children from a camp became involved in a minor collision with another vehicle, officials reported.

An ambulance was dispatched to the southbound lanes of I-5 near Pico Canyon Road, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

"It was a camp van of kids," said Capt. Chris Lanc of local Fire Station 124 in Stevenson Ranch.

"There were seven kids on board, but no one was hurt and no one transported," he said.

The children were younger than teenagers, officials said.
Their van was straddling the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes after the minor collision occurred.

A replacement van was dispatched to the scene to transfer the children from one vehicle to the other.

"They were headed home from camp and waiting for the replacement van," said Officer Eric Bejar of the California Highway Patrol. The replacement van was delayed due to heavy traffic.
