A line of youngsters with their hands on each others’ shoulders snaked through the grass laughing and swaying their hips.

Couples strolled over the outdoor stairs and began twirling and twisting in front of the lively crowd.

And on the stage of the Valencia Marketplace amphitheater, Igor & Red Elvises was performing a fast-paced cover of “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga.

It was Friday night and the Russian rock band was blasting covers, Russian tunes and original songs to a crowd lounging in outdoor chairs and tapping their feet to the live beats.

Summer across the Santa Clarita Valley means a wide range of concert series: tribute and era bands at Central Park for the city’s Concerts in the Park; jazz at the Lexus of Valencia Jazz and Blues series at Town Center Drive in Valencia; and rock
bands at Westfield Valencia Town Center’s Rockin’ Summer Nights.

“It’s about people having fun and dancing,” said Igor Yuzov of Igor & Red Elvises.

Igor & Red Elvises began in 1995 after Yuzov had a dream about Elvis Presley in a red dress. Presley told Yuzov in his slumber to start a rock ‘n’ roll band.

More than 15 years later, Igor & Red Elvises tour the world, playing bars and marketplaces, music festivals and clubs.

Many of the band members, including Yuzov, are from Russia. The band, which has made regular stops in Santa Clarita, is known for its loud costumes, oversized instruments and interactions with music lovers of all ages.

“The more the crowd is pumping,” Yuzov said after his Friday concert. “The more we’re pumping.”
