Sheriff's deputies are looking into the suspected drowning death of a Los Angeles man whose body was found in the deep end of a swimming pool in Valencia on Friday.

Emergency crews were notified of a suspected drowning at a pool inside the Santa Fe condominium complex on Del Monte Drive, east of McBean Parkway, shortly after 11 a.m.

Investigators were not sure if the man died of a heart attack or from drowning, said Sgt. Gary Miller of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

The victim was identified only as a 42-year-old black man who lived in Los Angeles, said Craig Henry of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Department.

"We don't know at this point if it's a heart attack," he said. "We don't know if its an accident, or what."

At about 11:15 a.m., paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the pool from the fire station on Citrus Street and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation to try to revive the man, a department spokesman said.

A protective screen was put up around the body as investigators did their jobs.

A coroner with the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner arrived at the scene about 1:30 p.m.
