A suspected burglar was led handcuffed from his mother's Castaic home Wednesday following a four-hour standoff with sheriff's deputies and the SWAT team.

Law-enforcement surrounded the Zion Court home about 7:30 a.m. and evacuated nearby residences. At about 11:30 a.m., they entered the house and emerged with one young man.

The arresting deputies escorted the man - clad in a gray Jimi Hendrix T-shirt, plaid shorts and black socks - shoeless from the cul-de-sac home and placed him in the back of a Sheriff's Department cruiser.

No shots were fired and no one was hurt.

Scores of black-and-white cruisers and other tactical sheriff's vehicles that had lined suburban streets near the home all morning dispersed once the suspect was taken from the area.

At least half a dozen homes on the cul-de-sac near Olympic Street and Hillcrest Parkway were evacuated during the morning standoff.

Some residents were escorted from their homes through their backyards.

"We had a burglary of a semi-automatic handgun on Monday and deputies have been working it up and identified a suspect," Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Capt. Paul Becker said from a command post at a shopping mall near Interstate 5 and Hasley Canyon Road before the arrest Wednesday.

"The deputies also knew that the suspect may end up at his mother's house in Castaic," Becker said. "So they've been keeping an eye on that."

Deputies surrounded the home when the suspect's car was spotted in the area, he said. "They made contact with the mother in the house and she said, ‘Yeah, he's inside.'"

The SWAT team was called out and traffic was stopped on Hillcrest Parkway and The Old Road because investigators believed he was in possession of the stolen semi-automatic handgun, Becker said.
