Unitarian service

What: The Unitarians’ Poets-in-Person writers’ group will present “Poets-in-Person: Encore” as part of its sixth anniversary. Immediately after the service the Social and Environmental Justice Team will present a forum with Ed Ayres, formerly of Worldwatch Institute and former editor of “Worldwatch” magazine. He will speak on the subject “Will Humans Endure?” with emphasis on water sustainability. All are invited.

Open Door theology

What: Open Door, a progressive Christian church, hosts Theology Nite at the Pub. The first topic is forgiveness.

Nursery school
What: Completing its 42nd year in the Santa Clarita Valley, Little Shepherd’s Nursery School, located on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall, opens its summer program to the community.
The children are encouraged to find their creative talents while painting, building, singing and playing. Right after the summer program ends, fall classes begin.
When: The summer program starts July 19 and runs for four weeks, and the school’s fall program begins Sept. 12.

One Voice concert
What: Ten Santa Clarita Valley worship leaders representing eight churches hold One Voice concert. Free.

Final Jay service
What: The Rev. Canon Lynn Jay will celebrate her final Eucharist as Rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. A reception honoring the Jays will be held after.

Book study group
What: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church holds a new study group based on the Christian author Marcus Borg​’s book “Speaking Christian: Why Christian Words Have Lost Their Meaning and Power and How They Can be Restored.”
When: Group begins Aug. 7 and will meet Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m. in August.
