Letter: Motorcyclists’ greatest threat is themselves

This seems to be somewhat of a campaign lately with even the lit-up billboard signs on the freeway telling you to “look twice” to save motorcyclists.

However, it has been my experience that the greatest threat to most motorcyclists is — themselves.

Each day, I drive to work on Interstate 5 and watch sport-bike riders treat the freeway like their own personal race course, weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds with no notice given to anyone.

I had one actually bump my side-view mirror as he sped by only inches from my car.

I have ridden motorcycles most of my life, and the truth is — even if people do look out for you — motorcycles are small and not easily seen, hard to anticipate and you will lose big-time in any accident, no matter whose fault it is.

People who drive motorcycles should keep that in mind much more than the rest of us.
