An out-of-work man has been arrested for burglary after he allegedly stole bags of toys, with a few of the stolen goods earmarked for resale, according to law enforcement officials.

Sergio Steven Carbajal, who lives in Sylmar and reportedly drives a 17-year-old Toyota Camry, allegedly drove to the Kmart Store at Valencia Boulevard and Railroad Avenue on Friday.

Described by deputies at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station as 45 years old and unemployed, the man reportedly entered the store and went on a shopping spree of sorts, placing selected items, such as a Buzz Lightyear action figure and a DVD of SpongeBob SquarePants, into a box at the back of the store, according to the sheriff’s report written by deputies.

According to deputies, the suspect left the store, drove his car to the back of Kmart and then put the box and its contents into his car.

Some of those items seized included: a VBox controller, four Xbox games, batting gloves, headphones, computer, flat screen TV, rechargeable batteries, car stereo, surround sound system, a manual shaver, 15 pieces of makeup and can of Pepsi.

A number of DVDs and CDs — as well as 42 Blu-ray discs valued at $839.58 — were among the items deputies say were stolen.

The titles include: “Tangle,” “A Bug’s Life,” “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 3.” At least eight music CDs, including those by artists such as: Kanye West, Linkin Park and 50 Cent.

Cooperative
“The suspect admitted he has been stealing from Kmart for 13 months,” deputies reported, describing the suspect as “unhandcuffed” and “cooperative” during the whole incident.

“I asked him why he stole the merchandise, and he told me it was because ‘Times are tough,’ and he further stated his girlfriend is not working right now, and they have a child.

“I asked the suspect what he planned to do with all the stolen merchandise. He stated he would try and sell it to make money,” deputies wrote.
