West Ranch AVID program to host fundraiser
The West Ranch AVID program will hold a bake sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Lombardi Ranch in Saugus to raise money for field trips and other events.

AVID students visit a different college campus each semester, he said.

All comprehensive William S. Hart Union High School District high schools and three junior highs offer an AVID program.

Luncheon hosts Magic Mountain's president
The Valley Industrial Association hosts Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor president, as the keynote speaker at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hyatt Valencia.

Since Thomas took the helm as president in Sept. 2007, the park, one of the largest employers in the Santa Clarita Valley for full-time and part-time employees, has gained stability.

He introduced the Individual Business Unit management philosophy to Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, inspiring creativity and ownership through an entrepreneurial approach to the more than 300 business locations within the park, according to information provided by the Valley Industrial Association.

The business luncheon is open to the public. Cost is $40 for VIA members and $50 for non-members.

Jolly Corks at the Canyon Country Lodge
The "Jolly Corks", members of the Elks Lodge, performed a two-hour comic relief play for a full house Saturday at the Canyon Country Lodge.

"The Corks" danced, sang and spoofed through the fun-filled evening that brought the audience to its feet clapping and cheering.

The cast and audience concluded the evening with a rousing song of "God Bless the USA."
