West Ranch's Megan Futch tips the ball over to the Hart side during game 2 of Tuesday evening's match played at home, improving to 3-0 in league.

It looks as though there is another squad on the heels of the defending Foothill League champion Valencia girls volleyball team.

That team is West Ranch.

The Wildcats defeated Hart on Tuesday at home in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22.

Currently, West Ranch and the Vikings are the only two teams undefeated in league.

West Ranch (7-4, 3-0) head coach Nate Sparks said the team is making a lot of progress in its quest for the league crown.

"We're cutting back on a lot of errors and stepping up our game," Sparks said.

Despite a sluggish start in the first set on Tuesday, West Ranch rallied back in the second and third set to take the lead and eventually the match.

Sparks, the Wildcats' second-year head coach, mixed up the rotation in the third set substituting starters.

Leading West Ranch's offense was junior outside hitter Allison Summers who finished the contest against with a team high 14 kills and 20 digs.

Senior Megan Futch led the squad in digs with 21, while setter Sophia Burns added seven kills and 15 assists.

Sparks said that aside from the league title, he would like to see his team go further into CIF-Southern Section playoffs.

Last season the Wildcats finished third in league falling in the first round of playoffs.

"This season we have more experience," Sparks said. "Our offense and defense have stepped it up."

More importantly, Sparks said the team's camaraderie has played a significant factor in its success so far.

"There's a lot more team work," he said." Everyone is having fun and wanting to get the job done."

Next up, West Ranch will travel to Saugus to take on the Centurions.
