A sheriff's cruiser crashed into a Saugus strip mall while chasing a motorist who ran a red light, a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station official said today.

The crash occurred Tuesday night when the deputy driving the cruiser took evasive action to avoid hitting a third vehicle, the official said.

No one was seriously hurt in the collision.

At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, the deputy followed a motorist east on Soledad Canyon Road from Bouquet Canyon Road after the motorist ran the light there, said Sgt. Rich Nagler.

A small white car abruptly entered Soledad from a strip mall, said Sgt. Rich Nagler.

"The deputy evasively maneuvered around the car," Nagler said.

The cruiser ran into two business store fronts - one operated by long-time Santa Clarita Valley chiropractor Karl E. Standifer and the other run by an e-commerce firm.

"He's OK today, but he has some minor bumps and bruises," Nagler said of the deputy, adding the driver of the white car would have been seriously hurt had the deputy not taken evasive action.
