Hart High graduate Trevor Bauer was named the 2011 Golden Spikes Award winner on Friday.
The award goes to the nation's top collegiate baseball player and in terms of magnitude, it is the equivalent of college football's Heisman Trophy.
The announcement was made on the MLB Network.
The UCLA junior pitcher and 2008 Hart High graduate was 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA this season. He led the nation with 203 strikeouts - a Pac-10 record.
He was drafted in June's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft third overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
