Benz issue just one of many traffic problems

We are responding to Richard Oster's opinion letter of Oct. 2 regarding the Benz Road traffic problem.

Yes, it's true that when we bought our home on this street 29 years ago, it was casually mentioned that one day Copper Hill Drive would be completed. That was fine with us.

Were we told that one day our nearby mountains would be bulldozed and thousands of homes put up? No.
Were we told that the area once containing a pig farm would turn into Plum Canyon Road, and hence have Benz become a shortcut to Copper Hill? No.

Did we ever think that the one signal light between us and the Interstate 5 would turn into 30 or so at the last count? No.

If Mr. Oster could have foreseen all the above events 29 years ago and the resulting traffic, we would be surprised.

This whole business seems to be causing a rift between Benz residents and residents of neighboring streets, which disturbs us.

My wife and I want Mr. Oster to know that our traffic problem has never been about them, but rather the people using Benz as a shortcut between Bouquet and Copper Hill, which we still hope can be reduced in some manner.

Obviously, the barricade was not the answer, as it's already removed. But the flow of traffic to other streets sure got the immediate attention of the rest of the community!

Perhaps they now better understand what we've been going through every day.

Mr. Oster has singled out Mr. Natoli as the "bad guy" in this scenario. It's true that he's no shrinking violet, but without his persistence, nothing would have ever gotten done to try different solutions.

To us, he is a good neighbor. Incidentally, Mr. Oster should have checked the dictionary before calling us a "posse." If we were, Benz Road could be shut down in a heartbeat. A "posse" is a body or force armed with legal authority!
