A 26-year-old Newhall man has been charged with 19 felony counts in San Fernando Superior Court this week, including kidnapping, assault and attempted murder, according to detectives.

The charges against Samuel Hernandez of Newhall stem from repeated assaults, including an alleged sexual assault, against his girlfriend during a three-day period earlier this month, said Sgt. Kevin Blake of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Deputies apprehended Hernandez in the Gorman area on Sunday after the victim reported the crimes, Blake said.

The detective declined to release further information about the victim's identity Wednesday.

Hernandez is being held on $5 million bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, according to Sheriff's Department records.

He has not yet entered a plea for the charges against him, a Los Angeles District Attorney's Office spokeswoman said.

Hernandez' arraignment hearing is set to continue in San Fernando Superior Court on July 26.
