Letter: Is a local mosque really what you want?

In response to “It’s time for a mosque to join the SCV,” June 21:

The article refers back to the years between 1095 and 1291 to make its point. I personally would rather deal with the years since Sept. 11, 2001.

He ends with “Finally, a Santa Clarita mosque is a good idea because this issue will draw out the bigots among us who wish to stand in the way of exercising American ideals and principles.”

Now, I take you back to a couple of months ago when The Signal printed an article by Clifford D. May of the Scripps Howard News Service. The title of the article read, “Beware of the Muslim brotherhood.”

I will give you one paragraph from the article:

“Stalin mused: ‘Death solves all problems — no man, no problem.’ The Muslim Brotherhood goes further. Just last year, its ‘Supreme Guide,’ Muhammad Badi, gave a sermon in which he said it was his plan to raise ‘a jihadi generation that pursues death, just as the enemies pursue life.’”

As a campaign slogan, that may not be as catchy as “hope and change.”

To tell the truth, I am confused. Maybe we should take a good look at what has happened in France and England.
The yardstick I like to use is 1. God, 2. country, 3. fellow man. I feel our regard for our country should come before any regard for our fellow man.

Does this make me a bigot, Kraut?
