Two passengers injured in a Colorado River boating accident that claimed the life of a Canyon Country woman remain in an Arizona hospital with major injuries, a spokesman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

Brittany Stark, 21, of Canyon Country, who was injured in the accident, was taken to La Paz Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

A young man and a young woman, whose identities have not been disclosed, are being treated at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, for injuries described by sheriff’s deputies as major, said department spokeswoman Jodie Miller.

On Sunday, shortly before 10:30 p.m., deputies of the department’s Colorado River station responded to a boating accident on the Colorado River in the area of the Parker Strip south of Emerald Cove Resort, south of Lake Havasu.

There were eight passengers in the wake-boarding boat, Miller said.

All six of the boat’s remaining occupants — four male, two female — were treated and released from the hospital, Miller said.

Among them was the boat’s driver, whom deputies identified as Gregory Kettelkamp, 20, of Saugus.

“Upon arrival, deputies were advised that Gregory Kettelkamp was operating his Ski Centurion vessel southbound on the Colorado River traveling at approximately 25 to 35 miles per hour,” deputies reported in a press release issued Tuesday.

“For an unknown reason, Kettelkamp struck the shoreline, causing his vessel to stop abruptly, which resulted in several of the passengers being ejected,” deputies reported.

Deputies with the Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit continue to investigate the accident.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision, Miller said.

Anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the collision was asked to contact Deputy Dave Smith of the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department at (760) 326-9200.
