A 30-minute police chase up and down Highway 14 Monday night ended in the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Newhall.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer tried to stop a motorcyclist southbound on Highway 14 just north of Placerita Canyon Road, said CHP spokesman Officer John Lutz.

"The vehicle accelerated away from the patrol officer," he said.

The motorcyclist got off the freeway at Newhall Avenue, turned around and got back going north.

"He reached speeds over 85 miles per hour, passing on the shoulder and exiting at Placerita," Lutz said.

That's when CHP officers lost sight of him.

However, they ran the license plate and arrested a man at the registered owner's residence in Newhall shortly after 10 p.m.

No one was hurt in the incident, Lutz said.
