It was a “lively” evening in more ways than one as the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley installed Jo Ann Rodriguez as its new president for 2011-12 term.

Attorney and former Doodletown Pipers singer Bill Lively serenaded Rodriguez during the club’s 37th annual installation with a unique version of “Some Enchanted Evening.”

Theme for the evening’s installation program was “Encore,” celebrating the return of Rodriguez to her second term as club president, and recognizing her enjoyment of Broadway musicals.

Lively was accompanied by past Zonta presidents Cindy Kittle on the flute and Nancy Albrecht on keyboard.

Rodriguez and the incoming officers were installed by Zonta International President Dianne Curtis, a member of the local club, as well as an international dignitary.

Other officers and board members installed at the dinner that was held at LeChene French Cuisine Restaurant included Chris Miller, president-elect; Alicia Estrada, first vice president; JoAnne Lindsey, second vice president; Michelle Woodfork, secretary; and Laura Peckham, treasurer. Newly installed board members include Barbara Cochran, Phyllis Walker and Cheryl Wasserman and next year’s Nominating Committee members will be Cathie Kincheloe, Donna Schmidt and Michelle Woodfork.

Longtime Zonta club member Jami Kennedy was recognized during the evening as the Zontian of the Year.
Kennedy was saluted for her efforts as chairwoman of the club’s Sunshine Committee.

In addition to sending cards and flowers, when appropriate, to club members celebrating birthdays or suffering bereavement, Kennedy made personal visits to shut-ins, drove members to doctor’s appointments and kept the membership apprised of Zonta sisters in need of comfort or support.

“She is a very nurturing lady and one of our club’s treasures,” said Barbara Cochran, a former Zontian of the Year.
Cochran presented a surprised Kennedy with a large “Z”-shaped trophy.

“She loves her family and friends and is always available when needed. Jami is truly a ray of sunshine — our Sunshine Lady,”  said Cochran.

Zontian of the Year is selected from member nominations. The selection committee is composed of former honorees.
Outgoing President Karla Edwards was saluted for the club’s outstanding accomplishments under her leadership in 2010-11.
