Castaic parents, educators and leaders celebrated the accomplishments of more than 400 Castaic Middle School students during the school’s recent promotion ceremony for eighth-graders.

Castaic Middle School is the only local school to host a promotion ceremony, which marks the end of junior high days and the path to high school.

“For Castaic, the kids have been here for grades K-8,” Castaic Union School District Superintendent James Gibson said.
“When they promote, they are leaving the Castaic district totally and really leaving our community.”

Castaic Middle School students attend West Ranch and Valencia high schools, which are part of the William S. Hart Union High School District.

The ceremony honors students who have reached academic and social accomplishments, and recognizes longtime educators.

“It’s huge to our community,” Castaic Union board member Laura Pearson said.

The promotion ceremony is a way for students to formally transition into high school and say goodbye to the district that they attended through eighth-grade.

“I think it’s so cool that the teachers and staff at Castaic Middle School are putting their heart and soul into this promotion exercise,” Pearson said. “It is done with such dignity.”

The June 2 ceremony is held every year in the evening at the Castaic school.

“It’s a nice tradition for us,” Gibson said.
