Cheer squads from William S. Hart High School, including those that worked the first shift at the Hart cheer booth, shown above, raised $440.83 toward cancer research at the Santa Clarita Valley Relay for Life. They also cheered on the survivors that took the first lap to open the relay.

Meaghan Loebig
Meaghan Marie Loebig of Stevenson Ranch was named to the spring Dean’s List at Iowa State University. Students named to the Dean’s List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work. 

Thomas Grossman
Thomas Grossman, of Stevenson Ranch, was named to the University of Saint Mary‘s spring Dean’s List.

The University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan.  is a Catholic co-educational applied liberal arts university founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. Students ended the semester with a grade point average of 3.5 or better earn a spot on the Dean’s List.

Alexandra Crowder
Alexandra Nicolle Crowder, an Arts and Sciences major from Valencia,  was named to the spring Dean’s Academic Honor List at Baylor University. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Baylor is a private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution.

Mari Manzana
Mari Carlo B. Manzana, an Arts and Sciences major from Valencia, was named to the spring Dean’s Academic Honor List at Baylor University. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Baylor is a private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution.

Emily Jessup
Emily Ann Jessup of Saugus earned a BSED, General Studies degree from Baylor University. Baylor University conferred degrees on more than 2,000 graduates during spring commencement exercises May 13-14 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus.

Baylor’s nationally recognized academic divisions offer 151 baccalaureate degrees, 76 master’s degrees, a juris doctor, 29 doctoral degree programs and two education specialist degrees through 11 academic units.

Nicholas Shierts
Nicholas Shierts of Santa Clarita has successfully completed California Highway Patrol cadet training. He is assigned to duty at the CHP’s Central Los Angeles Area office.

Officer Shierts is a 2003 graduate of Valencia High School in Valencia. He graduated from Chapman University in Orange with his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology. Prior to joining the CHP he worked at Starbucks Coffee Company.
