The Every Road Covenant Church in Santa Clarita is hosting the Bless the Bike event at Old Road Harley-Davidson on Sunday.

The event will include a free pancake-and-coffee breakfast and an optional time of group prayer once every half-hour for the safety and blessing of riders, passengers and their motorcycles. The event is part of an effort by the Every Road Covenant Church to host an event every third Sunday of the month to benefit the community.

“Our message is that we aren’t just interested in people who might walk through our doors but the community as a whole,” said Dean Cox, who organized the event, and is a motorcycle rider himself. “Anyone is welcome to stop by, have a pancake and look at the bikes.”

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon, and breakfast will be served from 9-11 a.m. Normal Sunday services will be canceled for the event.

According to Cox, the motorcycle community is more open to faith and spirituality than most may assume.

“You’d be surprised, some of the gnarliest-looking people go to church pretty regularly,” Cox said.

Dean’s wife, Tess Cox, is the pastor of Every Road Covenant Church. While not a motorcycle-rider herself, Tess said she wanted to support her husband’s effort to reach out to the motorcycle community.

“From what I’m told, there’s a great sense of freedom and connection with creation in riding, and we want to bless that,” Tess said.
