Newly graduated West Ranch High pitcher Ryan Keller and West Ranch pitcher and senior-to-be J.C. Cloney have embarked on quite an adventure.

The teenagers will be pitching in Japan as part of the 2011 USA-Japan Friendship Series, June 19-23, in Tokyo and Osaka.

Only 18 players were chosen for the series.

Over the next week, Keller and Cloney are sending us a diary that will run exclusively on the-signal.com.

They will touch on various topics from both on and off the field.

Some of the players representing the U.S. were selected based off of playing at the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton.

All are considered some of the best players in the country. The following is Keller's first diary entry.

June 16
Today we all met at the Academy to get ready to depart for our trip.

We have been preparing for weeks now through practice and many meetings discussing what we were going to experience while in Japan.

My expectations are very high for the trip and I cannot wait to play baseball against the top competition in Japan.

Also, we have been instructed by former Major League players to make sure we respect the Japanese Culture and represent the USA, our team and our families properly.

To get rid of some energy I did one last of training throwing a bullpen at West Ranch.

Boarding the plane - talk with you tomorrow.
