Former Canyon quarterback Nate Longshore had a successful outing when he led the University of California Bears to a 24-14 victory over Arizona State on Saturday.

Longshore passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns in his return to the starting lineup.

Also making a huge showing in the Bears' win was former Valencia running back Shane Vereen who had 27 carries for 93 yards and five receptions for 51 yards.

Vereen's former teammate Shane Morales had four receptions for 61 yards and one touchdown in Oregon State's 31-28 loss to Utah.

And former Valencia All-American quarterback
Michael Herrick was 1-of-2 in Northern Arizona's victory over Sacramento State.

Injury update
Canyon wide receiver Charlie Cusumano suffered an ankle sprain in the Cowboys' game against Chaminade on Friday.

The senior wideout is day-to-day and hopes to be back in form for the Cowboys Foothill League opener against Valencia on Oct. 17.

A Master feat
Jeff Jackson of The Master's College cross country team set a personal and school record on Saturday at UC Riverside.

Jackson finished fifth in the Division I field with a time of 24:58.

Fall ball
Former Hart baseball player Chris Valaika is hitting .375 in his first two games with the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona League's fall season.

Valaika is currently 3-for-8 with one run scored and two RBI.

Workin' it
graduate and former baseball player Danny Susdorf is working out with the University of San Diego's baseball team.

Susdorf looks to earn a spot on the Toreros team for the 2009 season.
