The Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on May 14 as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra’s annual Youth Orchestra Festival.

The performance was the culmination of a two-year partnership between the orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The concert featured more than 100 musicians from all three orchestra groups, including the Prelude Strings, College of the Canyons Orchestra and the COC Symphony Orchestra.

The program included the world premiere of a commissioned piece by Derek Spiva Jr.

The orchestra is supported by the SCVYO Foundation, and all groups meet weekly as classes at College of the Canyons. Musicians of any age are invited to audition for SCVYO at COC on Aug. 20 or 22. Contact Executive Director Sue Stanger at sue@suestanger.com or visit www.scvyo.org for details.
