A heartfelt thanks to the many young people who spent Saturday, May 28, decorating the graves of the various military branches and to the parents who lined the roads within Eternal Valley and along Sierra Highway to make it all possible.

Even a decade or more of scouting and witnessing this memorial ritual does not prepare one for the impact when it is one of your own being so honored for the first time. The number of different youth and age groups participating, wearing their uniforms and insignia was an amazing sight. They demonstrated pride in their units, and did their task with great solemnity.
It was moving to see the individual groups smartly salute the flags they posted at the head of the grave sites.

Returning Sunday morning while the dew was still on the lawns and a gentle breeze was fluttering, the flags brought tears to the eye. I’m so grateful that those who served their country in so many diverse ways and are responsible for the well-being we so enjoy, though often take for granted, are so well-remembered.

I’m a proud wife of a World War II Navy man.
