May 24
4:20 a.m. Jakes Way, Canyon Country. A woman reported that someone broke off and partially ate the cactus pods growing in her front yard and said this was “an ongoing problem.” Officers noted the cacti may have been eaten by a raccoon or opossum.
9:56 p.m. Target, 24425 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia. Officers responded to a call from Target store security after an 18-year-old woman was seen shoplifting $115 worth of clothing and cosmetics. The store recovered all of the stolen items.
May 26
Between 4:15 and 4:20 p.m. L.A. Fitness parking lot, 26455 Golden Valley Road, Santa Clarita. A woman reported that her car window was smashed and her purse, containing her wallet and ATM card, was stolen.
Between 10 p.m. and 8:15 a.m. May 29. Charles Helmers Elementary School, 27300 Grandview Drive, Valencia. Someone stole $3,600 worth of audiovisual equipment from the school’s multipurpose room. There were no signs of breaking and entering.
May 27
12:45 a.m. Newhall and Railroad avenues, Newhall. A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after an officer spotted his car zig-zagging between lanes and speeding in a marked 40 mph zone. The man failed a field sobriety test but refused to take a breath test.
May 28
Between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. May 29. River Park Apartments, Sara Street, Canyon Country. Someone removed an apartment’s door from its hinges and stole an Xbox gaming system and a DVD left inside of it.
11:15 a.m. River Park Apartments, Sara Street, Canyon Country. Two roommates reported that their apartment door had been kicked down and more than $2,000 worth of firearms and electronics including an Apple MacBook Pro, a Sony PlayStation and an Apple iPod Touch was stolen. Three minors were seen fleeing the apartment complex carrying a computer and a large bag.
6 p.m. Sears, 24137 Valencia Blvd., Valencia. A 20-year-old man was arrested after store security saw him shoplifting a $52 bottle of cologne. He was also found to have a fake California driver’s license.
May 29
3:25 a.m. Camargo Drive, Saugus. A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after someone reported him for drunk driving. The man told officers he’d had “about 12 beers” but refused to take a breath test. He then sat down on the curb and fell asleep.
May 30
1:30 a.m. Lazy Dog Cafe parking lot, 24201 Valencia Blvd., Valencia. A man reported that two men punched him after he found them leaning against his truck and told them to leave. He drove himself to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a two-inch cut on his face.
