Letter: Please be aware of nature, part 2

After Wednesday morning, I met my husband for our evening Bible study on his way home from work, at Christ Lutheran Church on Tournament Road 6 to 7 p.m. with our therapy dog.

Yes, we did say an ending prayer for the person who had killed the pregnant female duck, and asked God that we, as humans, be more aware of the creatures he has given us for our enjoyment and care.

My husband offered to take the dog for a walk home while I drove the car instead. As I started from the parking lot directly across the street, I could see a slight mound where the kind gentleman had laid the duck’s body. I called animal control so children wouldn’t see the duck’s body, and prevent other animals from getting a hold of her.

My heart tugged at me, and I drove directly across the street and parked.  As I approached, I could see that animal control hadn’t come to get her after eight hours, and there she lay with her mate and girlfriend sitting about 10 feet away.

I gently picked her up and brought her closer to him. He stood and quacked twice at me as a form of thanks.

I drove home, got my husband, shovel, extra gloves and noticed they had walked away knowing they had done all they could do. So we buried her under a prophetic sign on the side street that read: “Drive Carefully: Duck Crossing!”

I couldn’t have asked for a better ending.
