A 17-year-old suffered moderate injuries after he was struck by a vehicle at about 5 p.m. today while riding his skateboard near the Panera Bread Company in Valencia, authorities said.

The teenager was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment after being struck close to the restaurant near the intersection of McBean Parkway and Baywood Lane, said Lt. Bill Weiss of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Many details were not available Wednesday night as law enforcement was still investigating the cause of the crash. The type of vehicle involved in the crash, the speed the car was traveling and the names of the teenager and driver were not available at 6:30 p.m.

It's the second time in less than a week that a Santa Clarita skateboarder has been injured during a vehicle-related collision.

On Monday, Edward Culhane, 35, died from injuries he sustained after hitting his head on the ground in a skateboard stunt gone wrong. Culhane fell while holding onto a vehicle being driven by Ryan Howell down a street in Saugus on Saturday.

Howell was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, authorities said.
