Letter: Rivas didn’t help poor family enough

In response to “Private help doesn’t fill welfare role,” May 17:

Lori Rivas needs to read up on the discussions the Founding Fathers had in regards to Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.
They did not intend for the federal government to pay to support the people of this country, they only intended it to pay for infrastructure improvement. The Supreme Court struck down Butler, but gave the power to lay taxes to Congress, who misused that power.

Lori Rivas went to great lengths to help the woman in the article, but fell far short.

What she should have done was to take this woman and her children into her home, or paid for a hotel for a week until she could get help from the community.

She chose not to do either, but instead, looked for a way to pawn her and her children off onto someone else, then complain about personal sacrifice.

Where is this woman’s family? Was she dumped here? Where is the father?

What’s the rest of the story?
