I am writing to nominate Elizabeth Alva, a 17 year-old Golden Valley High School student, for this week’s award.
Elizabeth is a very bright and talented student who has contributed to her school and community in many ways over the last three years.

She has served as a member of the ASB program for three years, and most recently became the Golden Valley representative for the Hart District Advisory Committee.

Elizabeth takes upper-level courses and maintains a high GPA, all while participating on the track and field team, Key Club and National Honor Society.

Recently, it came to my attention that Elizabeth was selected to participate in this summer’s Junior Statesman of America (JSA) Summer School program at Princeton University.

She will have the opportunity to explore politics through the international studies program and will receive college credit upon completion of this monthlong experience.

Elizabeth wants to pursue a career in anthropology, and this program would help further her chances of successfully achieving her goals.

The JSA Summer School tuition fees are more than $5,000, and Elizabeth has worked hard over the last several months to fundraise on her own because her family is unable to cover the cost of the program.

To date, she has successfully raised more than $2,000, but the remaining balance is due in May.

I would hate to see this charming and hardworking young woman miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

Please consider Elizabeth Alva for this week’s SCV Helping Hand award.
