Deputies arrested a 33-year-old man in Saugus for felony driving under the influence Saturday, after he allegedly drove a car intoxicated, which was towing — by rope — another man on a skateboard, sheriff’s officials said.

About 2:10 p.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a skateboarder who was critically injured at Cedarfalls Drive, east of Urbandale Avenue, in Saugus, according to a release from the station. Deputies then realized that Edward Culhane, 35, was riding on his skateboard while holding onto a vehicle being driven by 33-year-old Ryan Howell, according to the report. Culhane fell off his skateboard and hit his head on the ground, the report reads.

He was transported Saturday to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Deputies suspected Howell was driving under the influence, took him to the SCV Sheriff’s Station and booked him for felony DUI.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call Detective Jeff Maag at (661) 255-1121.
